About the Owners: Tobie Earley formed Happy Hive Design with her previous business partner in 2013.

As a former Elementary educator, and self-proclaimed people person, Tobie has always loved connecting with people and making things pretty.

Throughout her childhood and into adulthood, Tobie would see her home as a canvas and her opportunity to express and represent the stage of life she was in.

After undergoing her own extensive home renovation, she was approached by a contractor who suggested she reach out to his wife who was perusing interior design. On a whim Tobie picked up the phone, and Happy Hive Design was born. They tackled their first renovation a month later, and Tobie hasn’t stopped since.

After several years in a partnership, Tobie was left with the choice to go out on her own, or pack it in (her partner was pregnant with her 5th child). As someone who tries to perceive obstacles as a sign to keep going, Tobie knew this was the path she was meant to take. In 2018 Morgan Wishnew joined Happy Hive Design and has been a willing copilot ever since.

When asked to describe my aesthetic, the answer can be perceived way more or less complicated depending on your perspective. As a designer, my driving forces are comfort, function and reflection. My design is fluid, it represents my client’s needs, wants and family. I strive to create a marriage of comfort and design. Whether it’s modern, bohemian, eclectic or traditional, comfort, function and reflection are my guiding principles.

As a ‘lifelong’ Ridgewood resident, and someone who grew up in retail, I always knew a brick and mortar was in my future. With 3 children in the public school system, I saw the void this town was missing. With the support of my husband Bryan, in Spring of 2023, I approached my cousin, (more on that…) Katie Diamond to partner with me in opening The Hive-my muse-a lifestyle store with jewelry, clothing, furniture, accessories and home design lifestyle. We just celebrated our 1-year anniversary at the Hive and are so thankful to the community for welcoming us in so gracefully!!! So excited for what’s to come.

Katie launched her first jewelry collection in 2007 out of love for all things sparkling & her obsession with the notion that jewelry is one of the few things in our lives that can become heirlooms when intentionally passed down from one generation to the next. Graduating from F.I.T, studying metalsmithing and marrying into the Diamond family (as fate would have it) put endless opportunity at her fingertips to pursue her passion of jewelry design.

In May of 2015, Katie opened her first shop in one of the oldest standing buildings in Ridgewood, NJ. Built in 1790, her retail space includes charming architecture and luminous natural light. The space doubles as a studio & storefront, welcoming shoppers from the surrounding area to browse the store. The Katie Diamond Store located at 570 N Maple Ave. focuses on elevated gift & jewelry items.

In 2023, Tobie Early of Happy Hive Designs invited Katie to collaborate on the Hive, a retail shop in the center of Ridgewood. Located at 171 East Ridgewood Ave, their joint venture is a true lifestyle shop featuring all they love, including furniture, art, home goods, candles, clothing, jewelry & gifts.

Katie lives within walking distance from the stores with her husband Dave & her two sons, Nate & Sam. She attributes her success to an extremely supportive community. Just as responsible for the growth of the brand as Katie’s style & eye for the most special items, is the network of inspirational women (small business owners, stay at home moms & working moms) that have found their way into our lives throughout this process sharing their stories and strength.
